What is CIVIL ENGINEERING?

Civil Engineering is one of the oldest professional engineering in the world and one of the biggest field in engineering which mostly deals with the construction of buildings, construction of roads and bridges, highways, motorways etc. Civil Engineering also deals with the built environment such as maintenance of already constructed buildings and roads, dams and canals etc.

Civil engineering is the profession of designing's , and implementation of that designs into physical construction work, and to maintain it.

Civil engineering is the design and maintenance of public works such as roads, bridges, water and energy systems as well as public facilities like ports, railways and airports.

People who do have Civil Engineering degree of Bachelors (B.E),(BSc) or Masters (M.E),(MSc) are known to be as Civil Engineers. Civil Engineers are highly qualified people in the world and world respect the civil engineers because of their extra ordinary works for betterment and development of their countries Because of the Civil Engineers, the environment of our societies are efficient to live a healthy life as they are always curious improve the society day by day by maintaining structures and infrastructures roads, highways, bridges, crossings transportation routes for the use of public. Mostly the duties of Civil engineer focuses on the designing's of structures and works on mega projects such as tunnels, bridges, flyovers, and hubs (such as airports and bus interchanges), water treatment (sewage, dams, pipelines, etc.) government buildings, and other structures required on a large public scale and civil engineering also involves military engineering. Civil engineers can work in a variety of work environments, including in the public sector, as contractors, consultants, or even as part of a firm that undertakes work outsourced from municipalities and government. Civil engineers also work with architect firms and construction firms.Throughout the lifetime of a civil engineer career, you might vary your employment circumstances considerably to work around different needs and interests; the good thing is that your qualifications will allow you much flexibility. Within civil engineering there are different roles open to you. For example, in the United Kingdom, you can become an engineering technician, an incorporated engineer, or a chartered engineer. Your personal interest in where to specialize will be something to consider as you pursue your studies and the different options offered through the course, so be sure to ask what's available in your country or region.

Branches of Civil Engineering

Construction Engineering

Construction engineers oversee the actual process of building civil engineering structures. Structural engineers work specifically to make sure that buildings and other structures are designed in a way that is safe; it's their job to make sure that bridges and buildings don't collapse. Geotechnical engineers focus on how structures interact with the ground and bedrock they're built on, and are responsible for designing solid foundations. Geospatial engineers lay the groundwork for engineering projects by compiling survey data and creating maps.

Environmental Engineers

Environmental engineers work to ensure that the environment stays clean, and they do so by designing structures that minimize pollution. For example, environmental engineers often oversee the design of structures such as landfills, sewer systems and sewage treatment plants. Environmental engineers also work as consultants on other types of projects to make designs that are more environmentally friendly.

Water Resources Engineering

Water resources engineers are civil engineers who design structures related to water. For example, they specialize in the design and construction of dams. However, they also build a variety of other structures related to water, such as aqueducts, canals and pipelines. Water resources engineers also specialize in building water distribution systems and water treatment plants. Those who build marine structures such as coastal embankments are sometimes called coastal engineers.

Transportation Engineering

Civil engineers who specialize in the design of transportation systems are aptly called transportation engineers. Transportation engineers are often thought of as the civil engineers who build roads and highways, but their expertise goes beyond automobile transportation. These civil engineers also design facilities that serve other forms of transportation, such as airports, rail lines and ports for shipping. They work closely with urban planners to make sure that transportation systems are designed to run smoothly and are properly integrated into the existing urban landscape.
